The marks left behind from previous activity or process form the basis of my work. Residual matter acts as a memorial to a particular event or life experience whereby a diary is created. I am fascinated by the subconscious manner in which the palette is produced by the spontaneous application and mixing of colour. The process by which my work evolves is a vital element of its identity. This body of work endeavours to communicate time and emotion by the layering of textured paint and the juxtaposition of colours, which are applied to both sides of a reflective surface. The highly reflective backdrop, combined with the use of raked borrowed light, provides a surface on which shadow and colour is reflected, echoing their position and form.
